SuperBertha Maine
SuperBertha is working to build a DX Lodge SuperStation in Maine. W3TX's exploratory trip to the most northeast part of Maine in October 2015 yielded two exceptional, potential sites. W3TX's next exploratory trip to Southern and Central Maine will be in April 2016.
If there is a strong enough interest then W3TX will prioritize SuperBertha Maine ahead of SuperBertha W3
Based upon the type of sites W3TX visited, there are two possible scenarios for SuperBertha Maine:
Scenario 1: QTH on the ocean, with saltwater in the fresnal zone towards Europe, initially sporting the following antenna system
-
Monoband four element broadside-endfire (BSEF) vertical arrays, located in the tidal zone, fixed on Europe for 6m-40m.
-
Monoband two element endfire (EF) vertical arrays, located in the tidal zone, fixed on Europe for 80m and 160m.
-
DX Glider 10m/15m/20m monobanders stacked @90ft/45ft
-
DX Glider 12m/17m/30m monobanders stacked @ 67.5/110ft
-
40M3V-Yagi monobander @ 120ft
Once the site is verified with the antenna systems above then additional monoband antenna systems for 6m-160m are planned.
Scenario 2: QTH on the first ridge off the ocean, with topography sloping towards Europe, sporting the following antenna system
Bertha 1:
-
10M9POWY-60 @ 70/35ft
-
15M8POWY-60 @ 90/45ft
-
20M6POWY-72 @ 110/55ft
-
40M5POWY-72 @ 120ft
80 Meters:
-
80M 9-Circle vertical array...the ULTIMATE 80 Meter antenna
160 Meters:
-
160M 4-Square vertical array
Bertha 2:
-
6M9POWY-36 @ 65/25ft
-
6M13POWY-65 @ 110ft
-
12M6POWY-36 @ 80/40ft
-
17M5POWY-36 @ 100/50ft
-
30M4POWY-36 @ 120ft
Once the site is verified with the antenna systems above then additional monoband antenna systems for 10m-160m are planned.
SuperBertha Maine's initiation fee is $20,000. Dues are $199 per month plus a member's utility proportion (electric and broadband) thereafter.
The build-out of SuperBertha Maine will begin once there are five committed members. Please contact W3TX for additional information and to join.
